ETML – European Tool-Machine Language

Efficiency through openness and standardization

WEINIG is part of an initiative of European tool and machine manufacturers, including Leitz, Leuco, AKE, JSO, Kohnle, Homag and IMA Schelling – the so-called ETML. The underlying ETML technology is based on the VDMA guidelines developed by the aforementioned initiators. EUMABOIS is the founder of the initiative and is the owner of the ETML online platform on a non-profit basis.

What does ETML mean?

European Tool-Machine Language (ETML) is an European communication standard between the machine and their tools.

What is ETML?

ETML is a new cross-manufacturer standard for digital tool data. It ensures uniform and reliable data exchange throughout the entire tool lifecycle, making processes more efficient, verified and secure.

What does ETML do?

ETML is a standardized data structure that describes tools independently of the manufacturer.

What are the general advantages of ETML?

The primary target of ETML is the fast and error-free commissioning of machines and tools. This is particularly interesting for plants with different manufacturers of machines and tools. Further advantages are:

  • Optimization of production processes
  • Interoperability
  • Data consistency and transparency
  • Flexibility and scalability
  • Security and data protection
  • Efficiency - less efforts and faster usage
  • Error detection and correction
  • Tool envelope contours can be used for material removal simulation

Which target groups does ETML have?

  • Tool manufactures
  • Machine manufactures (processing and grinding machines)
  • End customers
  • Grinding services
  • Software providers

What are my advantages as a WEINIG customer?

  • Easy tool identification
  • Fewer errors, less downtime
  • Prevent operating errors
  • Higher machining quality
  • Faster, it can reduce the machine setup time or initial setup of tools
  • Easier and faster data exchange with grinding services
  • Get data exactly when needed
  • One file format instead of different formats
  • Full transparency, traceability and saved time
